WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden is thanking Hispanic and Latino leaders for their contributions and commitment to their country.

Biden, along with his wife, Jill, hosted a reception celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month poolside on a warm fall evening Wednesday at their Naval Observatory residence.

Biden recognized Labor Secretary Hilda Solis (soh-LEES'), White House Domestic Policy Director Cecilia Munoz (MOON'-yohz), Colorado Lt Gov. Joseph Garcia and Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto.

He also acknowledged several Hispanic-American Olympians and Paralympians on the 2012 Team USA.

Biden predicted that most of the guests would see a Hispanic president in their lifetime. He added that he and President Barack Obama are determined to find what he called "a permanent legislative path out the shadows for those living in fear" of the country's immigration policies.
